To back up your EFS certificate<\/strong><\/h3>\n

  1. Open Certificate Manager by clicking the Start<\/strong> button Picture of the Start button \"Picture, typing certmgr.msc<\/strong> into the Search box, and then pressing ENTER.\u200c<\/li>\n
  2. Click the arrow next to the Personal<\/strong> folder to expand it.<\/li>\n
  3. Click Certificates<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  4. Click the certificate that lists Encrypting File System <\/strong>under Intended Purposes<\/strong>. (You might need to scroll to the right to see this.)
    \nIf there is more than one EFS certificate, you should back up all of them.<\/li>\n
  5. Click the Action<\/strong> menu, point to All Tasks<\/strong>, and then click Export<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  6. In the Export wizard, click Next<\/strong>, click Yes, export the private key<\/strong>, and then click Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  7. Click Personal Information Exchange<\/strong>, and then click Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  8. Type the password you want to use, confirm it, and then click Next.<\/li>\n
  9. The export process will create a file to store the certificate.
    \nEnter a name for the file and the location (include the whole path) or click Browse<\/strong> and navigate to the location, and then enter the file name.<\/li>\n
  10. Click Finish<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
